Land and Sea

Carole works from her rural studio that overlooks orchards and farmland in the beautiful county of Kent. Strongly influenced by the changing seasons, these natural surroundings are a constant inspiration.

Living within easy reach of the Kent coast, Carole also makes frequent visits to explore and paint its wild and natural areas; rich in wildlife and texture with beaches that are repositories for both sea-life and human detritus, dotted with wild flowers and edged with windblown plants, stunted trees and, of course its iconic white cliffs. She is also mindful that in celebrating these views, they are frequently overshadowed by threats of loss, whether from natural disasters, climate change or man’s adverse interventions.

Carole’s paintings retain a strong relationship to thèir subject while moving through various degrees of abstraction. Working in a flowing style: she enjoys experimenting with colour, mark making and a range of water suluble media, enjoying their potential for resist effects.
